SPEAKER of Parliament Ratu Epeli Nailatikau today received a courtesy visit from the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Qian Bo.

Ratu Epeli who had previously served as the Speaker of the then-House of Representative from 2001 to 2006 was once again appointed as the Speaker last week after the position became vacant following the demise of the late Dr Jiko Luveni last year.

He was nominated by Government Whip Alvick Maharaj as the Government’s nominee for the position winning 30 votes to Tanya Waqanika’s 21 votes who was nominated by the Opposition.

He also served two terms as Fiji’s President under the Bainimarama-led government.
