SCOTLAND caused the first upset of the 2019 Singapore 7s when they defeated defending champion Fiji 19-12 in the second pool match last night.
Scotland did not allow the Fijians to settle and scored the first try of the game to lead 5-0.
Aminiasi Tuimaba replied for Fiji but Scotland added their second try to take a 12-5 lead at the break.
Another Tuimaba try in the second half brought scores to 12-all but an infringement by replacement Alasio Naduva five metres from their tryline, saw him being shown the yellow card and the Scots made use of their numbers to score their third try and win the game.
The Paula Dranisinukula-captained side had one more game to play when this edition went to press last night and they needed to beat South Africa in order to make the Cup quarter-final and have a chance to defend their title in the second day of competition.
