The case involving suspended Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) director Shameem Khan was called before the High Court in Suva today.

Mr Khan is charged by the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC) with a count each of  abuse of office and general dishonesty causing loss.

In court today, FICAC deputy commissioner Rashmi Aslam said there was a possibility of both parties agreeing to more facts in the case.

Mr Khan was represented by Filimoni Vosarogo and he is presently on bail.

It is alleged that between January 1, 2016, to May 5, 2017, while being employed as the chief ethical standard unit officer and the director intelligence, compliance and investigations at the FRCS, Mr Khan made an arbitrary act for the purpose of gain in abuse of the authority of his office, namely he prepared an investigation report with false contents and thereby preventing FRCS in obtaining revenue in the sum of $4,118,994.08.

It is also alleged that during the same period, he dishonestly caused a risk of loss to the FRCS  in the sum $4,118,994.08, and he knew that the loss would occur or that there was a substantial risk of the loss occurring.

The case has been adjourned to October 14, 2020.
