The case against Grace Road president Jung Daniel Kim is a matter of security, says Solicitor-General Ropate Green Lomavatu.

While appearing at the High Court in Lautoka yesterday before Justice Lyone Seneviratne, Mr Lomavatu insisted the matter against Mr Kim be dealt with at the earliest possible time.

In a submission responding to the Habeas Corpus Ad-Subjiciendum application made by the plaintiff, Mr Lomavatu said there were “security issues” that they were concerned about.

He said this was one of the reasons they would insist that the matter be heard as soon as possible.

Defence lawyer Kings Counsel from the Victorian Bar in Melbourne, Simon Ower, said they needed time to respond to the submissions made by the defendants.

Mr Ower said they would ensure they made their submissions within three days to also give enough time for the Solicitor General’s team to respond.

Justice Seneviratne adjourned the matter to September 29 for the hearing on the application made by the defence, questioning the legality of Mr Kim’s detention.

Meanwhile, out of the courtroom, security was tight around the High Court as dozens of Grace Road employees lined up along Tavewa Avenue to show their support for their detained leader.

Adorning white T-shirts, the supporters — consisting mainly of locals — carried banners denouncing the detention of Mr Kim, with some calling for his release.

Some of the banners also called for the end of religious oppression and for the protection of human rights.

Mr Kim is expected to reappear at the High Court in Lautoka on September 29.
