CARPENTERS Fiji Limited has been fined $20,000 by the Nasinu Magistrates Court on two counts of failure to display prices on certain price-controlled items and non-controlled price items.
This concludes action taken by the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) which charged the company with failure to display prices on one price-controlled and four non-controlled items after an inspection.
“FCCC had sent out two officers as part of our normal routine inspection to Max Value supermarket at Daniva Road in Valelevu on 2 March 2018, after which our officers found breaches of the FCCC 2010 Act where it was noted on the traders inspection form,” said Acting FCCC Acting-Chief Executive Officer Senikavika Jiuta stated.
“We held a caution interview with the appointed representatives where they were warned for prosecution. The maximum penalty for such offences for subsequent offenders is $250,000.
“As we draw closer to the festive season, we would like to encourage all our consumers to be vigilant when going out shopping.
“FCCC is committed to protecting consumer interest and will ensure appropriate actions are taken again unscrupulous traders.”
This is the third incident this year where Carpenters Fiji limited has been fined with a large fine.
On September 27, 2019, they were fined $20,000 for false and misleading representation.
On October 14, 2019, Carpenters was fined $15,000 for overcharging on price-controlled items and failure to mark on price-controlled items.
