THE bus industry has been urged to work together in finding solutions to issues it faces.
The Attorney-General and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum while officiating at the Fiji Bus Operators Association’s 2019 Annual General Meeting in Lami this morning, pointed out that by doing so, it allows the association to work out its own strategies and solutions.
“There is a need for the association to market itself and to move with the times,” he said, while giving a few suggestions on the direction it can take.
“What is your strategy in place as an association to tell the Fijian people what important role you play in their lives.”
In relation to a call by the association to increase busfares, the A-G said while the submission has been made on that, it was equally important to keep in mind the various incentives and concessions given by the Government over the past few years to promote and provide relief to the industry.
The AGM, which will see a number of stakeholder presentations including the Fiji Roads Authority, is a forum for all the operators to come together to discuss issues affecting the industry and this year the theme for the meeting is “Sustainability in a Regulated Environment”.
