Rio Olympic Games gold medallist and 2019 World Rugby 7s Player of the Year, Jerry Tuwai, opened the lid to his illustrious rugby career on the weekend.
It was to advise and inspire local rugby players who are eyeing success in the sport. Tuwai believes discipline and an intimate spiritual relationship with God will result in successful achievements.
He made the comment during the Fiji Bitter Wairiki Sevens in Taveuni on the weekend where his FDS Barbarians team won the tournament.
Tuwai pleaded with his team-mates to be religiously devoted.
“We need to walk closely with God because our success and victory on the rugby field, I believe, depends on discipline,” Tuwai said after his side beat Police in the final.
Discipline and being religious, he said, had rewarded him with victories on the rugby paddocks including the World Rugby Sevens Series.
“It is very important that as rugby players, we maintain discipline. For me, depending on God is everything in my life.”
When a rugby player lives a disciplined life, Tuwai said, the training program would become an easy task to attend.
“This is how I have achieved my dreams in the rugby world and I believe we also did this at Wairiki.
“It is important that we keep a disciplined life and stay focused on our goals in life.”
