Three men accused of causing the death of a 56-year-old bus driver have been convicted.

Mikaele Lawaniyavi, Josateki Rabula and Isikeli Tawake appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar on December 4.

The trio were each charged with a count of manslaughter for the attack which took place on October 3, 2020.

The court was told Tawake had claimed he was hit by a side mirror of the bus driven by the victim, Subhas Chand.

Tawake and Rabuku then confronted and punched Chand several times in the face and head.

As Chand tried to grab a spanner to defend himself, Lawaniyavi stabbed him twice in the abdomen and face with the sharp point of an umbrella.

Chand succumbed to his injuries on October 9 the same year.

Justice Goundar ruled the actions of the three men contributed to Chand’s death.

Bail for the trio has been revoked, and they will be remanded in custody until the conclusion of the case. The sentencing hearing has been adjourned to December 11.
