Fiji’s construction sector showed strong momentum in the June quarter of 2025, with a sharp rise in both the number and value of building permits issued, according to the latest Building Statistics released by the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS).
A total of 284 building permits were issued across the country during the quarter, with an estimated $199.5 million in construction value, marking a 10.9% increase in permit numbers and a massive 129.7% jump in value compared to the March quarter.
When compared year-on-year to the June quarter of 2024, the statistics reflect further growth: a 20.3% increase in the number of permits and an 18.8% rise in total value of works.
The surge suggests heightened investment in new construction projects, including residential, commercial, and industrial developments.
However, the number of completion certificates, which indicates completed projects, showed a decline in volume but a dramatic rise in value.
Only 48 completion certificates were issued in the June quarter, down 14.3% from the March quarter and 36.0% lower than a year earlier.
Yet, the value of these completed works soared to $132.0 million, reflecting a 731.3% increase from the March quarter and a 622.9% jump from the June 2024 period.
The FBoS noted that these figures are based on data provided by municipal councils, and they offer insights into the pace and scale of construction activity around the country.
