The Bucalevu Secondary School team players had their hopes of reaching the Raluve under-16 final shattered after they were defeaded 24-0 by Sigatoka Methodist School in the semi-finals in Prince Charles Park, Nadi yesterday.
The teacher in charge of organising the team, Akata Samuri, said despite their loss, they were content with how far they had reached in the competition.
Travelling all the the way from Taveuni, Samuri said the team had had their fair shares of challenges.
“A major challenge was the financing of the team in traveling to Viti Levu,” she shared.
“Despite this, the girls showed heart in their performance against Sigatoka Methodist School and we are proud of their performance.
“Sigatoka Methodist is a very talented and tough team to play against but I think the girls did well in standing up to them.”
She said there were a number of girls in the squad who where first-timers in the competition.
“The support shown by the parents was overwhelming and well wishes here today was very encouraging. We just want to thanked them all.”
She also wanted to thank the school for showing its support in sending the girls to Nadi to represent the students.
Though they were not able to fulfil their goal, they are adamant of coming back strong next year.
