Mick Byrne’s first task as the new Flying Fijians coach will be on Sunday in England in the annual Killik Cup match.
The Flying Fijians are set to face the Barbarians in their first of the many Tests this season on Saturday at Twickenham Stadium.
The team will be missing the services of speedster Selestino Ravutaumada and Iosefo Masi who have opted to join the Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s team in preparation for the Olympic Games.
The last time the two teams met was November 2019, when the Flying Fijians claimed a narrow 33-31 victory over the Barbarians in a ten-try thriller at Twickenham.
Overall, the Barbarians and Fiji have played each other on four occasions with honours even at two wins apiece.
For the Barbarians, Autumn Internationals 2024 reported, Danny Care, who announced his international retirement last week, is set to represent the Barbarians for the first time.
The dynamic 37-year-old scrumhalf won 101st cap in the recent Six Nations, becoming England’s sixth Test centurion.
Care said: “You don’t get too many firsts at this stage of your career, but this has been a long time coming!
“It’s nearly happened a few times over the past few years, but now the stars have aligned, and I cannot wait to finally wear that famous black and white shirt.”
Sunday’s match will kick-off at 4.15am.
Some members of the Flying Fijians squad in Fiji were scheduled to depart for England today.
