FIJI National Rugby League’s new find Mosese Qionimacawa joined his elder brother Etuate on the tour to Canada and will be trying to secure a spot in the Vodafone Fiji Residents team for the Battle of the Bati.
The 24-year-old, former Fiji under-20 rugby union rep, made the switch to league two years ago and said it was a move he did not regret.
“I know there are a lot of players out there who want to be part of the Rugby League World Cup team. As you know this Canadian tour serves as a trial for us to perform. So for now I will focus on the task at hand and improve on my skills, fitness and game awareness,” Mosese said.
He said a lot of changes would be made for the Battle of the Bati and the only thing on his mind was to be one of the selected players.
“Playing alongside my older brother Etuate is a motivating factor in itself. We have played together before for the Nadera Panthers, but I am looking forward to play alongside him during the tour.
For Etuate, being in the same team with brother Mosese brought back memories of their younger days.
“When we were little that’s all we do, and we always share skills and knowledge of the game, like what should we do in game situations.
“We discuss those kinds of things about the game and just basically help each other build our game skills and knowledge,” Mosese said.
Fiji Residents head coach Jo Dakuitoga said both Etuate and Mosese brought that sort of X-factor to the game and would be keeping a keen eye on their progress.
