The 67-5 loss to the Hurricanes last week was a turning point for the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua side.
Team captain Meli Derenalagi said the loss inspired him team to come out stronger against the Moana Pasifika.
“The boys were hungry for this game because of the upset last week, so this few days that we were preparing for this game the boys were increased their workrate twice as hard,” Derenalagi said.
“We all have that one mindset was to win this game, even though it was battle of the Pacific but they put the effort and we came up with the win.”
Derenalagi said when it was 24-19 in the second spell, he told his team to keep the composure.
“We just block off a little bit but I tried to tell them we don’t lose our structure. We tried as hard to stick with the game plan.”
“They made a few mistakes and we made a few of our own. I’m just glad we came out with a win.”
Derenalagi and his squad will now prepare for one of their toughest battle of the season when they take on the Crusaders this Friday.
