Boxers’ fitness will be closely monitored: Coach Fuata

FIJI Amateur Boxing head coach Nicholas Fuata says he will be closely monitoring the fitness aspect of the boxers before he can finalise the final team.

Fuata says the fitness of the boxers was an essential part of doing well at the upcoming Samoa Pacific Games.

“We will have a fitness test after we have gotten the ones we want, fitness is very important because we want to make sure these boxers are up to par with their fitness,” said Fuata.

Boxers with experience have a high chance of making it into the squad, such as Winston Hill.

“I am looking at boxers who are here from experience and have fought many previous fights producing good results that we want an example is Winston Hill.

“The priority is on those who have experience and have fought during the Sukuna Bowl championship or for the national team,” said Fuata.

The association was also part of the Fiji Games program as they used it to hold the final trials for the games.

“Like other sports, we have also used the Fiji Games to choose our squad and after that, we will go into training in preparation for July,” said Fuata.
