Bowling targets increase in number of participants

IN a bid to increase the number of participants committed to the sport of bowling in the Suva and Nausori area, the Suva Bowling Club has organised its fourth business house competition starting today.

The Pacific Energy-sponsored tournament comprises of 16 teams.

Games committee chairman Samuela Tuikiligana said participants have been stagnant and leaving the future of national representation in limbo.

“This is our attempt to keep the interest growing and introduce bowls to people who don’t understand the sport.

“Our Suva club membership is stagnant. We have the same old people that are coming to play.

“If we look at the Fiji team, we have the same players rotating over and over again, if that lot goes there’s hardly others there to replace them,” he said. This is the second out of four business house tournaments Pacific Energy has sponsored. Prizes will be split in three categories with the cup winners to walk away with $450, plate $300 and bowl winners $180. Reporting time is at 5.30pm.
