Papua New Guinea’s autonomous region of Bougainville is now able to quarantine people showing symptoms of Covid-19.

Bougainville has been under a stringent State of Emergency for some weeks though flights into the region, from Port Moresby, were allowed to resume last week.

President John Momis said a new facility had been built in Buka.

“From today we are opening a New Zealand and Australian-funded centre. A centre for holding people.

“Apart from that kind of facility we don’t have much, so we are lucky we haven’t been hit with any confirmed case yet,” Mr Momis said.
