THE Sabeto Roosters Rugby League team runs on to the field in Nadi today boasting their new uniform handed over in Suva yesterday by sponsor TAU Sports.
The company came to the aid of the Sabeto Village club to help youths develop their rugby talents and also to stay away from criminal activities.
“This is our first full-time sponsorship for a rugby league club,” company director Deidre Linda Moore said.
“We are based in Suva, but we choose this village team because they are champions and they are full of village youths who are unemployed. Our sponsorship will help shape a good future for their lives. We help rural people, especially youths because we do not want them to be involved in criminal activities.”
Club manager Viliame Mataitoga said rugby league in the village helped some of their players find employments and overseas playing contracts.
“We have few players playing in New Zealand, Australia and the Cook Islands. Some are being recruited into the police rugby league team. They have found work and some of our players are in the Fiji National Rugby League elite squad. This game has helped our young people to believe in themselves,” Mataitoga said.
Sabeto Roosters are the FNRL Vodafone Cup champions.
