Body of Unaisi Rokoura recovered from Rewa river

The body of the late former national netball coach Unaisi Rokoura has been recovered this afternoon, police has confirmed.

The Fiji Police Force announced the recovery of Rokoura’s body on social media platform Facebook just before 1.30pm today.

In the post, it showed a picture of officers from the Fiji Police Force and the Republic of Fiji Navy transporting the body of the late Rokoura on a boat.

Her body was recovered from the Rewa River, near the Waila dredging plant.

The search now concludes after it began over the weekend and a joint effort between the Police and Navy was coordinated to help find Rokoura.

Rokoura was reported missing on Saturday after an incident where she and a 34-year-old woman were swept away by strong currents while collecting kai (freshwater mussels).

The body of the 34-year-old woman was recovered from the Rewa River and a post-mortem examination was expected to be conducted today.

Rokoura was the former coach of the Fiji Pearls, the national netball team, and a seasoned player herself.

She was 47-years-old.

Since news of her disappearance broke, tributes flooded social media, with many lamenting the loss of someone who was passionate about the sport.
