KOREAN ambassador Shin-hee Cho opened the 2018 Blue-Green Economy Symposium this morning at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa on Denarau Island, Nadi.

She said while harnessing energy from the ocean was a relatively new concept, it provided numerous benefits for the Pacific.

“Climate change is a shared problem for the mankind but it poses fundamental threats to the livelihoods, security and wellbeing of Pacific Islanders who are particularly vulnerable to climate change,” she said.

Ambassador Cho said the Republic of Korea – surrounded by water on three sides – has recognised the potential of the marine energy industry and actively invested in related research and development.

She said this information and experience was what Korea could bring to the Pacific.
