The Fiji national rugby league team is ramping up its preparation for the highly anticipated 2024 NRL Pacific Championships.

This year marks a significant event as the team prepares to play on home soil for the first time in over two decades.

The last time the Fiji Bati team played in Fiji was in 2001 when Vula Dakuitoga was coach.

According to coach Wise Kativerata, the team is set to gather on the 28th of this month.

According to Kativerata a team of seven players with six staff members are set to head out to Savusavu and Labasa to promote rugby league in the region.

“We will gather on the 28th of this month and about seven of them with six staff will go to Savusavu and Labasa, doing some rugby league promotion,” he said.

With majority of players currently active in the NRL, the coach emphasised that organising logistics and notifying families was a top priority.

“Some of our players have just finished playing in the NRL, while others are still playing. It’s important to get all the logistics right and prepare the players in the right environment earlier,” he added.

Coach Kativerata confirmed that notable international players like Viliame Kikau, Tui Kamikamica and Kevin Naiqama would feature in the squad. Naiqama playing his final season is set for a special farewell.

“We want to give him a memorable send off- during the Pacific Championship,” he said.

Coach Wise Kativerata has rallied the nation to get behind the team as they prepare for two weeks of thrilling rugby league action during the Pacific Championship.
