Bail extended for Singh; Court orders amendment to bail undertaking

A COMMUNICATIONS officer charged with a drug-related matter had her bail extended by the Suva Magistrates Court today.

Deborah Singh appeared before Magistrate Seini Puamau, charged with a count each of unlawful possession of an illicit drug and unlawful importation of illicit drugs.

Ms Singh was arrested at the Suva Post Office on Monday this week upon receiving a consignment from the United States allegedly containing two candles made of wax and cannabis.

The contents of the parcel were tested and proved positive for marijuana.

New defence lawyer Gavin O’Driscoll informed the court that his client was not in the position to take plea because he had yet to receive the disclosures from the previous counsel.

He told court that the court clerk had made a mistake while typing the bail undertaking form where her client was ordered to report to the police station every Saturday instead of every first Saturday of every month.

Magistrate Seini Puamau made an order for the bail undertaking form to be corrected and for Ms Singh to report to her nearest police station on every first Saturday of every month.

The case now will be called on September 12 for a plea.
