The Ba Provincial Free Bird Institute team has been working on a game plan a superior Marist Brothers High School team in the Vodafone Dean Super Rugby under-18 trophy semi-finals at Prince Charles Park in Nadi tomorrow.
The Lautoka school team qualified for the semi-finals of the U18 competition for the first time after defeating Nasinu Secondary School 12-5 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva last week.
BPFBI principal Waliki Nasau said they needed to work on the on-field co-ordination of their players. Nasau said they watched the replay of the quarter-final fixture and there were concerns about their set piece plays.
“The commitment of the players in the ruck is one area of concern.” he said.
“Things like how we are going to counter the opposition from the restarts, the scrums and the line-outs. “We need to improve on our kicking and we have been working on that with our halfback, first-half and fullback options.”
Nasau said in their last quarter-final match they did well in the line-outs. “It was about eight line-outs and we did really well gaining possession,” he said.
“I think it was only two that were spoiled. We need to lift our general play especially on the high balls looking at the second line of defence.”
Meanwhile, in the Raluve competition, Jasper will take on St John’s College while Lelean face Ratu Navula in the under-18 grade semi-finals.
The under-16 semi-finals sees Sigatoha Methodist face Bucalevu and Naitasiri High takes on Jasper Williams.
