THE Fiji Roads Authority is urging drivers to not jeopardise the lives of road workers by speeding past their work zones.

FRA chief executive office Jonathan Moore made the plea at a press conference in Suva on Thursday after noticing drivers travelling at speeds up to 80km/hr.

“We are very concerned about the driving attitude and manner of people in Suva and in Nadi, they are driving way too fast through work zones,” he said.

“We have guys who are literally a metre away from the traffic doing the job they are paid to do.

“They don’t want to be put in jeopardy by people driving too fast, so when you see a road sign that says 30, please drive on 30km/hr.” he said.

“There are people’s lives at stake over there and they are very close to where you are driving, so you can’t be driving at 50km/hr. It is unfair on the workers as well.”
