ATTACKING people during prayers is absolutely a senseless act of terrorism, says adviser of the Fiji Muslim League Mufti Mahboob Sher Khan during the interfaith Ecumenical Vigil for Christchurch victims held at the Holy Trinity Anglican Cathedral in Suva yesterday.

An emotional Mr Khan acknowledged the support shown by New Zealand who have shown solidarity towards the families affected from the attack and for condemning the act of violence.

“We salute the Prime Minister of New Zealand for her inclusive stance in assuring people of her country from all backgrounds and religions that they are part of that beautiful country,” Mr Khan said.

Mr Khan also showed his gratitude for the stance taken by our Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama that all Fijians should speak out the hatred that exists within our societies.

“We request all Fijians to join us in praying for the families and friends in our peaceful and neighbouring islands of New Zealand who have suffered through this senseless act of terrorism,” he said.

Mr Khan said at the blood bank, people in need of blood do not ask if the blood is from a Muslim, Christian or Hindu person.

“There is no talk of religion, race or colour, this is the way forward for all of us to uphold our ties of humanity and rise above all hate,” he said.
