ATTORNEY-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is in Singapore for a medical treatment.
He revealed this while addressing members of the public via a 2021/2022 National Budget virtual consultation session that aired live on social media Facebook yesterday.
He responded to numerous questions that were raised about where he was at present. “I am at the moment in Singapore for some medical procedures.
I have already had a procedure a few days ago and I am actually going to have another major one next week sometime,” he said.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said there was a lot of rumour-mongering being circulated about him not being quarantined when he arrived in Fiji.
The A-G clarified it was pivotally important for every Fijian to undergo the COVID-19 quarantine process.
“A lot of people were saying I was already back in Fiji and I did not do quarantine and won’t be doing quarantine. Well, please let me allay all those fears.
Every single person that comes to Fiji, whether it’s a visitor or whether it’s a diplomat, whether it’s a minister, every single citizen and every single returning resident or even a tourist that wants to come to Fiji has to go into quarantine in Fiji and of course I will be doing that upon my return.
“I also heard some other silly people who made all sorts of questions.
“This is, of course, a personal medical treatment for me, which means that all the expenses of course are borne by me, none of the expenses for this trip or my medical procedure is borne by the Fijian Government or any of the Fijian taxpayers so please be assured of that.
“I like to thank everybody that has wished me well, thank you very much for that.”
