Parliament convenes from today with a packed agenda featuring ministerial statements, oral questions, and the tabling of key reports on national infrastructure, education, and transport.
The session will open with the presentation of the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji Annual Report 2024, followed by a series of ministerial statements expected to outline current government priorities and policy updates.
A range of oral questions has been filed by Members of Parliament (MPs), addressing issues from rural development to digital governance.
Among them, Vijay Nath will seek updates from the Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management on the construction of new evacuation centres nationwide—an issue of growing importance as the country braces for the cyclone season.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is expected to respond to several questions covering cybercrime alignment under the United Nations Convention, ongoing issues with Fiji’s e-ticketing system, and progress on international trade engagements, including the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Fisheries Subsidies Agreement.
Mr Rabuka’s portfolios on the order paper is listed as Minister for Foreign Affairs, Civil Service and Public Enterprises, Trade, Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications
Premila Kumar will question the government on the number of civil servants under suspension and the cost of salaries and benefits paid during those periods from 2023 to 2025.
Other MPs will raise concerns over public infrastructure, including road repairs along the Nasinu–Nausori corridor and the extension of the EFL gridline from Dreketi to Nasarowaqa in Vanua Levu.
In the afternoon session, Parliament will debate several motions, including consolidated review reports on the Fiji Roads Authority, Land Transport Authority, and Fiji Higher Education Commission.
