The Lau Provincial Council is meeting in Suva to discuss the soli ni vanua (provincial levy).
Tui Nayau, Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara, urged leaders to consider the financial struggles of the people when imposing obligations.
He called on the provincial company and members of the council to explore investment opportunities to help ease the levy.
The meeting is being held at the Studio 6 Motel in Suva.
