Long-time education training institution in Sabeto, Fulton Adventist College, has been officially upgraded to a university.

The accreditation was confirmed this month by the Fiji Higher Education Commission, with the institution now called Fulton Adventist University.

Speaking at a recent celebration event, university head Dr Ronald Stone said the accreditation was long time coming for the institution that was established in 1905.

“As we embrace our new identity as Fulton Adventist University, we are filled with hope and excitement for the future,” Mr Stone said.

“Our commitment to providing a holistic education that nurtures the mind, soul, and spirit will remain steadfast.

“We will continue to build on our rich heritage while embracing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”

Fiji Higher Education Director Dr Eci Tekuru Naisele commended staff and students of the new university for this milestone.

“I look back in history and during the early days of the Fiji Higher Education Commission, I remember vividly that Fulton was one of the first five higher education institutions that gained full recognition and registration status from the commission,” Mr Naisele said.

“The commission is a regulated body under the Government to look after and regulate all higher education institutions in Fiji.

“We have a total of 51 institutions that include the three universities, the former Pacific Theological College, and is now the Pasifika Communities University, which is the fourth that was launched in May this year and now we have Fulton Adventist University.

“It was a tussle because there were a lot of consultations done, and there was the question of ‘do we need another university?’

“But the school’s vision, mission, and programs demanded a new university.”
