Fans at 4R Electrical Stadium in Ba didn’t have to wait long to discover the semi-finalists for the 2025 FMF Inter-District Championship (IDC), as Power Volt Suva booked the final spot in style with a commanding 3-1 victory over defending champions Extra Supermarket Labasa.
Suva, needing a win to advance, found themselves trailing early after Remueru Tekiata scored an own goal, giving Labasa a 1-0 lead.
But Suva responded swiftly, with goals from Gagame Feni and Dave Radrigai turning the tide before halftime to put the capital side ahead 2-1.
Faizal Ali sealed the result 10 minutes from full-time, netting Suva’s third goal and confirming their place in the semi-finals.
Head coach Babs Khan praised the resilience of his young squad, who stepped up despite the absence of key players due to injury and suspension.
“We had a number of players out, including Ravinesh Karan Singh, Amani Makoe, and Geary Kubu, but I’m proud of the team for stepping up and getting the job done,” said Khan.
The result rendered the Nadi v Lautoka clash later that evening a mere formality in terms of semi-final qualification.
Navua bows out on a high
In an earlier match, Vantex Solutions Navua ended their campaign on a positive note with a dominant 5-2 win over Partlink Automotive/Star Pools/Manasa Export/Equipment Express Nadroga.
Thomas Dunn led the charge with a brace, while Mathew Charitar, Rahul Krishna, and Jared Ronogosulia also got on the scoresheet as Navua notched their first win of the tournament.
Nadi was leading Lautoka 2-1 in the first spell when this edition went to press last night.
Semi-final match-ups
The semi-finals are set for tomorrow, with Labasa playing in the first semi-final at 2pm, followed by Suva at 4.30pm. Their opponents would be decided based on the outcome of the Ba v Rewa match held last night.
To top their pool, RC Manubhai Ba needed a win against Rewa, while a draw would be enough for Rewa to secure first place. The winner of the pool faces Suva, while the runner-up takes on Labasa.
A strong crowd was on hand for the third day of action, and organisers are expecting an even larger turnout for the highly anticipated semi-finals.
