The Fiji Police Force has provided an update on its investigations into complaints raised by the Commission of Inquiry (COI), revealing that the majority of cases are now awaiting legal advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
“As per the last progress issued on 10th September, there were a total of 12 reports under investigation,” Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu stated.
“A number of these investigations were ongoing before the commencement of the COI.”
He detailed the initial breakdown, noting that “six were sent to the DPP office for legal advice, five were still under investigation, and one report was filed.”
The Commissioner then provided the latest developments, confirming that progress has been made in the intervening weeks.
“I can confirm as of today that another three investigation files have been forwarded to DPP for legal advice,” he announced.
“This leaves two cases that are still under investigation,” Commissioner Tudravu explained.
He identified the two remaining active cases as a “complaint against a senior member of the Commission of Inquiry,” and a “complaint lodged by the former FICAC Commissioner against a senior member of FICAC.”
“In summary, from the 12 reports, nine are pending legal advice from the Office of DPP. Two cases are still under investigation, while one has been filed.”
The single case that has been closed was “in relation to a complaint lodged in 2023 against the former FICAC Commissioner for allegedly disseminating confidential information from the National Voter Registration.”
