A new chapter for Fiji Rugby is tantalizingly close to being written, with Fiji Rugby Union Board chairman John Sanday confirming that negotiations for a proposed new stadium in the Western Division have progressed and are now at the final stage of formalisation.
The potential for a stadium in Lauwaki, Vuda, a project that promises to address the long-standing infrastructural deficit plaguing the sport, is one step closer to reality after a pivotal phase of talks involving the local landowners and the iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB).
“It is now at the point of formalising the process with TLTB,” Sanday confirmed.
“With me coming from an investment banking background, it was really refreshing that we could talk the same language with TLTB and the landowners and it is really great to see.”
However, Sanday stressed that the final decision rests with the Board of Trustees of the FRU
“I must caveat all this to say that our Board will submit this lease proposal for the stadium to the Board of Trustees of Fiji Rugby for their final approval.
“It will be conditional on their approval, Fiji Rakavi Football Union Limited is just an operating and advisory company to the FRU Trust.”
