It’s a battle of the tauvus in the final of the Vodafone Vanua Trophy between Kadavu and Navosa, after they won their respective semi-final matches to gain promotion to the Skipper Cup next year.
Navosa beat Rewa 34-26 in a intense and tightly-contested semi-final at the HFC Bank Stadium yesterday.
Rewa had led 15-20 in the first half however the Semi Kunatani-captained Navosa team came out firing in the second half.
After Navosa’s victory, Kadavu and Taveuni faced off in a ruthless contest that swung in favour of the former with a 18-13 win.
Taveuni had led 10-7 at half-time and blunders on their part resulted in Kadavu taking advantage of the situation.
As the two newly promoted teams ascend to the main provincial competition next year, it will be Kadavu’s first time and Navosa’s second in the competition.
Navosa head coach David Dakuitoga said yesterday’s win was the culmination of a long journey.
“We’ve come a long way to be able to get into the Skipper Cup and to play the big boys. It is so wonderful.”
The final is scheduled for this weekend.
