Playing away in Naluwai, Naitasiri, the Suva women’s rugby team thrashed the hosts 64-10 in their round eight Marama Cup clash yesterday.

The match took place at the Naitasiri Secondary School ground, where both teams battled it out under the scorching heat.

It was a dominant performance for Suva, leading 21-5 in the first half.

After the breather, Naitasiri added another unconverted try, its only points for the remainder of the game.

Suva, however, advanced on the scoresheet and finished it off with the final score.

Suva head coach Tavaita Rowati attributed their win to part of their rebuilding phase this year.

Rowati added the opportunity to play in Naluwai was also an avenue through which they could understand what teams such as their opponents faced in preparing themselves.

“The girls have opportunities in Suva; we always have good facilities. It’s good to come and see what teams such as Naitasiri face every day and the types of facilities they have in training,” Rowati said.

She said seeing this made them grateful for the facilities they had back in the Capital.

She said it was in places as such where the genesis of most rugby players in the country stemmed from.

As the team heads further into the competition, she said the team would have to refine its understanding of the basics as an area to improve on.

Meanwhile, Suva hosts Nadi in round nine next week.
