THE Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji has begun investigations into the cause of a helicopter crash in Beqa yesterday afternoon.
When contacted CEO Netava Waqa said a team from CAAF was at the site.
“A helicopter conducting aerial work in Beqa has had foreign object debris strike the main rotor blades on landing,” he said.
“This caused damage to the main rotor blades and tail rotor.”
CAAF conducted a preliminary investigation yesterday and confirmed the helicopter was operated by Island Hoppers Ltd.
“Damage to the main rotor blade and tail rotor area from the strike was significant. There were no casualties or injuries.
“The reason for the incident is currently being investigated. It appears foreign object debris may be the cause.”
Calls made to Island Hoppers Ltd general manager Craig Keighley yesterday afternoon went unanswered.
