A FRESH boost of support has been secured for one of Suva’s biggest running events, with the Motibhai Group stepping in as the official sponsor of the 10-kilometre race at this year’s Suva Marathon.
At the signing event at the group’s head office in Walu Bay, Suva yesterday, they presented a $15,000 sponsorship cheque to the Suva Marathon Club and secured naming rights under the Rexona brand for the popular 10km race.
Motibhai team leader in marketing Payal Kritika and sales manager Rima Pillay said the partnership reflected the company’s commitment to healthier lifestyles and building stronger communities.
“We’re here to celebrate an exciting partnership that all about energy, community and coming together for something bigger than ourselves,” Kritika said.
Sales Manager Payal said, “This will no doubt be a celebration of determination and healthy living and we are proud to be part of this journey.”
Suva Marathon Club co-founder Marita Manley shared how the event grew from 250 runners in 2014 to now drawing thousands from around Fiji and overseas.
“We started with adream to host a real city marathon in Suva,” she said.
“We encourage everyone, walkers, runners, beginners to be part of it.”
Manley also called on companies and clubs to enter teams in the 10km and team relay. It kicks off at 6am from Albert Park.
Suva Marathon club ambassador Yeshnil Karan, a double gold medalist at the recent 2025 Pacific Mini Games in Palau, spoke of his journey from training in Tavua to competing overseas.
“This 10km is not just a run, it’s a celebration of unity and health,” he said.
“Whether you are chasing a personal best or just finishing, your effort matters.”
Karan thanked the organisers and sponsors for their support over the years and encouraged all runners to start training now.
“See you at the starting line,” he said.
Meanwhile the, the 2025 Suva Marathon event will take place on September 6.
