THE Vinod Patel Ba team will host Suva at the newly renovated Govind Park on August 2 as the Skipper Cup kicks off in style.
Just two days after the ground’s official opening ceremony, Ba have the honour of playing powerhouses Suva on the pristine green turf in what will be the first sport played at the new stadium.
“We have been building up to this since our club rugby began in mid-March,” BRU Secretary Gaby Kautoga said. “We were all praying that the development work at Govind Park would be completed in time, and now that has been confirmed we can look forward to a spectacular day of sport at this exciting new venue.”
“We are still liaising with the Ba Town Council on the ticket prices and some of the logistics, but it is all systems go as we get ready for this epic opening day.”
Because of the late changes in the scheduling of the Skipper Cup, Ba will not be able to play all of its home games at Govind Park owing to other bookings.
“We had booked all the original dates with the Ba Town Council back in January, but some of the Skipper Cup dates changed last week and some of these are no longer available.”
This means Ba will play two or three Skipper Cup home games at Govind Park and the remainder at Vinod Patel Park.
Last weekend, the Vinod Patel Ba team completed its tour to Northland and Ovalau with victories in both games despite competitive opposition from the home sides.
After edging Northland 10-5 on the Thursday afternoon, they eventually overcame hosts Ovalau 15-6 at Nasau Park in Levuka.
Skipper Cup and Ranadi Cup warm-up games continue this Wednesday at Vinod Patel Park where Ba’s Men, Women and under 20s sides play host to Nadi.
