One hundred men from the provinces of Rewa and Cakaudrove have completed the 2025 Male Advocacy for Women’s Human Rights training this year.

The initiative, led by the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre (FWCC), aims to eliminate violence against women, girls and children, end gender-based discrimination and promote equality.

FWCC co-ordinator Shamima Ali said the program encouraged men to reflect deeply on the way they treated women and the roles they played at home and in their communities.

She said many women in the provinces reported that their husbands were now helping with domestic duties and showing greater empathy and understanding.

“This work involves engaging men in efforts to eliminate violence against women from a rights-based approach,” Ms Ali said in a statement.

“A key element is for these men to first change their own behaviour and thinking towards women and girls before they can influence other men.”

Designed specifically for the Pacific context, Ms Ali says the program encourages men to critically assess their behaviour, beliefs, and societal norms surrounding gender and power.
