* The crested iguanas of Monuriki are a distinct race from the Yadua Taba crested iguanas and those from the other islands.
* Crested iguanas on Monuriki are extremely well hidden in the wild. It took conservationists five months to collect 20 species for breeding purposes at Kula Eco Park.
* Fiji iguanas have been sought after on the international black market. In 2002 a german national was caught for smuggling iguanas from Yadua Taba.
* Crested Fijian iguanas were first discovered (scientifically) on Yadua Taba Island in Bua in 1979 by a USP biologist Proff. John Gibbons.
* The incubation period for crested Fijian iguanas is nine months, the longest for any iguana in the world. Their life span is between 20 – 30 years.
* Iguanas come under the Order Reptilia/Reptiles (that has lizards, snakes, turtles, crocodiles)
* Apart from Yadua Taba that accommodates well more than 90 per cent of the entire crested iguana population, small struggling populations still remain on the outer islands North, West and South West of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu where good strands of Tropical Dry Forest vegetation still exists.
