LABASA fans had another reason to celebrate their Vodafone Fiji FACT win yesterday when Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel announced that Subrail Park would host next year’s tournament.
Patel’s announcement follows reassurance from the Labasa Town Council that Subrail Park would be upgraded to allow it to host major tournaments like the Fiji Fact.
Patel told fans of the North Pole Hotel Babasiga Lions team that gathered to celebrate the win it was about time the tournament was brought to Labasa.
He said it was only fitting that Labasa defended the cup at its home ground.
“Not only that but bringing the tournament would mean giving fans a chance to witness and be part of the tournament’s magic and experience,” he said.
“This will also get in added advantage to the economy of the North as such events have a rippling effect on business.
“I also take this time to congratulate the side for winning the tournament this year and we promise to get the tournament to the North in a bigger better way.”
Also speaking at yesterday’s celebrations Labasa coach Bal Sanju Reddy congratulated his boys for what he said was a job well done.
Reddy said such results could only be achieved through hard work, dedication, commitment and unity.
“We won because of the high discipline that was kept in the camp during the tournament with strict rules regarding player’s behaviour on and off the field,” he said.
“We had a much disciplined side that stayed off grog, smoking and liquor during the one month period of training and I admire them for their dedication.
“Above all I thank our fans and sponsors who were very much part of the team’s victory.”
