“I SHOULD have died before seeing this day.” This is how 83-year-old resident of Nabua Muslim League settlement in Suva Satya Wati described the eviction notice she received on November 28.
Ms Wati along with at least 200 other households have until December 28 to vacate the land which belongs to the Fiji Muslim League.
She lives with one of her two sons and his wife – in a home she grew up in.
Her younger son passed away last week.
Speaking to this newspaper, Ms Wati said this would be the worst Christmas she would be experiencing in her life.
“I am worried and because of that I got sick and was hospitalised,” Ms Wati said.
“I don’t know where I will go live at this age.”
She said she had lived her entire life at the Nabua Muslim League settlement.
“My parents lived here, and I have lived my entire life on this land. I do not have any money and where will I go and live the rest of my life? All this worries me, and I have sleepless nights.”
Ms Wati said if she had strength, she would have planned something.
“But at this age, what will I plan and what will I do? I can’t even walk, I am in a wheelchair.”
The FML said in an earlier interview that the residents were notified several times over the years to vacate the land.
