DESPITE a lull in sales, some vendors at the Rakiraki Municipal Market are now sourcing off-season produce from Nausori.

This is in addition to seasonal vegetables such as long bean and eggplant currently flooding the market.

Rakiraki Market Vendors Association member Sunila Wati said some vendors had bought lettuce for about $35.

She said there was a flood of vegetables at the market.

“Long bean is going for very low prices here, we are buying it at $15 but selling it for $1 each,” she said.

Eggplant is being sold to vendors at $15 a bag. Ms Wati said business at the market was relatively slow over the past few months. About 250 vendors — permanent and temporary — operate out of the market.
