PASSENGERS departing for Auckland and Christchurch, New Zealand, yesterday morning got to experience the brand new Nadi International Airport departures lounge after a portion of the facility was opened for business.
Airports Fiji Ltd executive chairman Faiz Khan said the flights tested part of the departure areas that had been revamped under the Nadi Airport Terminal Modernisation Project.
“AFL commenced live testing of part of your brand new departures check-in terminal,” he said.
“Passengers of two flights were successfully checked in this morning.
“More tests are planned over the next few days before AFL completely transitions from the old to the new check-in terminal.
“Once we completely transition to your new terminal in a week’s time, farewellers will also be allowed in to experience the terminal for themselves.
“We thank all Fijians for their patience over the past year when farewellers were restricted from entering the departures check-in terminal to allow construction works to take place.”
The Nadi airport mega upgrade has been marred with material supply issues and delays and the budget for the project has increased from $105 million to $125m.
The brand new airport terminal is expected to be completed mid-next year.
