ASSEMBLIES Of God Primary School recently inducted 25 class prefects, 30 junior prefects and 36 senior prefects with four deputies and two heads of school.
While officiating at the event, former head teacher Jope Kaitoga said the 97 prefects would be important pillars in the daily operations at the school.
He said the students who had been chosen as leaders had proven not only to themselves but to their friends, teachers and parents that they were worthy of the role.
“When you become a leader you are required to lead by example, not by force,” he said.
“A good leader will only be able to earn respect by his or her actions and deeds rather than their threats or commands. “The badge you will be inducted with is not an ornament for your school uniform; it is a responsibility that you will have to carry for the rest of the year.
“While this badge may pass to someone else next year, this responsibility will build you to become better leaders for the rest of your lives.
“You have the potential to become future leaders of the nation, the community, religious groups and even in the workplace.”
Mr Kaitoga went on to remind the students the words of Myles Munroe – “Leadership is not about control but of service. It’s not about power but of empowerment. It’s not about manipulation but inspiration.”
