More than 60 people have been arrested in the North for unlawful cultivation and possession of drugs, police have confirmed.
Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu said the arrests followed ongoing raids under Operation Sasamaki, targeting remote areas.
“Officers have been deployed on rotation as part of our efforts to disrupt, destabilise, and destroy illicit drug networks,” he said.
Mr Tudravu said over half a tonne of drugs had already been seized in the Tukavesi area by April 30.
“The operation is aimed at cutting the supply chain from drug farms.”
He said all drugs were tested in labs before being stored as evidence, and court orders were being sought to destroy plants from unknown farms.
“We also apply for the destruction of seized plants particularly from unknown farms through the courts.”
He urged the public to stay involved in the fight against drugs.
