MORE than $2 million worth of wages has been recovered by the Ministry of Employment’s Labour Standard Services from January 2015 until September 2018.
Minister for Employment, Jone Usamate, in a statement, said the money had been paid to workers through the electronic fund transfer system into their individual bank accounts.
He said the Labour Standard Services conducted 14,034 labour inspections in organisations where employees were not given proper wages.
He said the Employment Relations Act 2007 and its Subsidiary Regulations will assist the new Labour Standard Services staff to successfully carry out their work.
Mr Usamate added the implementation of the Labour Inspection and Complaints Management system has assisted the Ministry’s Labour Standard Services in fast service delivery to all Fijians.
