THE NGO Coalition for Human Rights will continue to raise their voices whenever they feel that any facet of human rights, fundamental freedoms and dignity is being compromised.

Coalition chair Nalini Singh said globally, people were at greater risk as their behaviour gave effect to climate change, disaster, forced migration, conflicts, unbalanced trade and an unequal distribution of resources and economic mobility.

“We know that whenever human rights and fundamental freedoms are compromised or abandoned, we all are at greater risk,” she said.

Ms Singh claimed that in the recent past, there had been instances where human rights of people had been compromised.

“Fiji recently achieved a milestone in relation to Human Rights Council and most recently, acceded to the Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. Ms Singh reminded the Government to remain committed to human rights and display the same vestige of championing human rights at home.

The annual Human Rights Day march was held in Suva yesterday where members of the public, NGOs, representatives, partners, supporters and allies were part of the march and rally.
