ABOUT 4000 applications for postal voting have been received by the Fijian Elections Office so far.

Applications for postal voting close at 5pm on October 24.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said they expected an increase as there were still a few days left before the applications closed.

“We expect another increase at the end of the application process,” he said.

Mr Saneem said the FEO would start distribution of postal ballot and ballot papers as early as this afternoon.

He also said they were working to ensure that there would be no repetition of what happened in the last election where some postal ballots arrived after the closing date of postal voting.

“We are hoping to send it out earlier so that people get them early and they are able to send it back early,” he said.

“It’s one of those hazards of postal vote where we cannot control the delivery and the return of postal voting. We can only control the dispatch which we are trying to do earlier this time.”

Mr Saneem has also urged Fijians who have not yet submitted their applications to quickly send it so the FEO could quickly process their applications.
