2018 General Election: Issues emerge at maritime pre-poll venues
7 November, 2018, 2:43 pm
PRE-POLLING has been completed at the Dreketi and Naiviivi venues on Qamea Island, Cakaudrove.
A number of issues emerged from the two polling venues, common among both was the issue of missing names in the voter roll.
The Fiji Times has received unofficial reports that at least 10 voters in Dreketi were unable to cast their votes because their names were not in the voter register.
And at the Naiviivi pre-polling venue – that catered for four villages including Naiviivi, Lovoni, Vatusogosogo, and Waibulu – it was a combination of a number of issues.
According to Naiviivi Village headman Pasilio Sova, more than 100 voters were unable to cast their voters either because their names were not in the register, some did not have their voter ID, and some because of old age.
Mr Sova said he had brought those issues to the attention of the presiding officer.
Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said in a statement issued today that they now required the voter card number of the voters.
He said the FEO would verify all details first before his office made any statements.
