THE president of the Methodist Church Reverend Dr Semisi Turagavou has called on believers to love their neighbours as they love themselves.

Sharing his message on the social media page ‘House of Sarah’, on the occasion of the 16 Days of Activism, Dr Turagavou highlighted the biblical passage from the gospel of Luke.

“There is a quote from Luke, chapter six, verse 31, and it says ‘Do unto others as you would have others do unto you’, which are the words of Jesus, the saviour and liberator of the world,” he said.

“This is a golden rule, a golden rule for a sustainable community, a better community, not only for Fiji, but for the Pacific and the whole world.

“I plead with all Methodist followers around the globe, especially in Fiji and the Pacific, that we love our neighbours as we love ourselves.

“You must do good to others and let others do good to you in the same way as Jesus loved us all, as a community of believers. And we need to love everyone as God loves us all.”

Earlier this week, the church launched a helpline to support families and women facing violence. The helpline 1538, Dr Turagavou said, was an act of putting faith into action.

“As we launch this helpline, let us seek God’s guidance so that we may achieve great and mighty things together and strengthen our families.

“It is a tangible embodiment of our church’s vision, a beacon of hope and a channel of healing.”
