Forum chairmanship decision pending

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

CHAIRMANSHIP for the State's proposed National Dialogue Forum is still to be finalised, says the permanent secretary in the Prime Minister's office, Lieutenant-Colonel Pio Tikoduadua.

"We're still working on finalising the chairmanship of the dialogue forum," Lt-Col Tikoduadua said.

He said the process was taking long because "we're working on getting confirmation from people we have consulted".

Membership of the National Dialogue Forum is yet to be announced.

"We have a list of people whom we are looking at for membership and we have yet to have that published," Lt-Col Tikoduadua said.

He said those names would be made public once the forum's chairman position was finalised and confirmed.

"How soon we get that done will depend on the confirmation of the chairman," he said.

Lt-Col Tikoduadua indicated no timeframe by when all processes and appointments were to be finalised.

In an interview in January, he said some applicants for the National Dialogue Forum had met the criteria required for participation in the dialogue forum.

The forum, initially scheduled to hold its first meeting this month, is expected to lay the groundwork for a constitutional forum in September 2012.
